I’ve noticed a lot of creative advice focuses on big plans: calendars, gear, platforms, launch strategies. But the first five minutes can decide everything. Do you open a blank doc and freewrite? Make tea? Tidy your desk? Review yesterday’s notes? Put on the same playlist? Start with the easiest possible edit?
I’m interested in those small “launch rituals” that lower the friction before the real work begins. They don’t have to be profound; sometimes the best one is just naming the file, checking levels, or writing one deliberately bad sentence.
What is the very first thing you do when you sit down to create, and why does it work for you?
